Navicat releases essentials and it seems a great deal

Navicat has never been my favorite DB tool for various reasons, but I got out my wallet today for their new “essentials” version. Just released to the Mac app store last week, they have versions for SQLite, MySQL, PostgreSql, Sql Server (uh, right…) and Oracle (haven’t done that in 10 years) for about $10 each, and a “premium” version covering all DBs for $25. I bought the premium version.

For the record, I was (and still would be) happy to use Sequel Pro for MySql purposes, but as mentioned in a previous post I’ve been using SQLite for dev and test. And with my last few apps being released on Heroku I’ll probably start using PostgreSql for development soon. Navicat premium essentials lets one manage all supported DBs from a single interface. This outweighs previous reservations about navicat.

The app store states the pricing is a limited time 50% discount. I dunno, but the Navicat site has nothing on the “essentials” product line, nor pricing. Only this unadorned blog post. The post also states “essentials” is exclusive to the mac app store.

You might want to grab yourself a copy while it’s at this price.
